Headmistress’ Weekly Message 25.3.19

We were delighted to welcome visitors to the school on Open Morning on Tuesday and they were very impressed by our girls’ in terms of their academics, their eloquence and their happy self-assuredness.  Year Five lead the tours and always conduct themselves well and give a very honest view of the school.  I am immensely proud of what we achieve here and the opportunities that the girls have to excel in so many areas.

Year Four visited Hampton Court Palace this week and made their learning in History come to life as they explored the kitchens and developed a greater understanding for life at that time and within that context.

On two separate days Years 3 and later, Year 5 went to Christchurch, Purley, to participate in a CSI type investigation of the Easter story.  Looking at and analysing clues, discussing and reaching conclusions.

Mrs Fontanals and Mrs Kimber have listened to over a hundred and thirty auditions for the House Performing Arts competition and now have 2 finalists for each category.  Their aim was to give as many girls as possible an opportunity to represent their house in a variety of performance opportunities.  I am really looking forward to the event which is on the morning of the 3rd April. Cumnor girls really  are a talented bunch and it has been super to see the other things that the girls learn outside of school.

Year 6 participated in a Gamelan workshop on Friday morning and they later performed what they had learned to the rest of the school.  There was a great deal of counting and memorising done and the resonant sound of the bells was very soothing.  This workshop dovetailed into the girls’ learning about different world musics.

A group of girls from Years 2 and 3 participated with great enthusiasm in a Tag Rugby festival held at the Boys’ school on Saturday. They were the only girls’ team and they thoroughly enjoyed the event. Thank you to Mr Blain for arranging this and encouraging them to take part – cheered on by Miss Maple and Mrs King.

At the end of this term we will be saying good bye to Mrs Oldfield, Year Three, and also to Mrs Morley, swimming.  We wish them both well in the next step of their careers.

All parents should have seen a Parentmail about Celebration Evening which is taking place next week.  Classroom displays and activities are being prepared, sporting demonstrations are planned and there will be time for our choirs and orchestra and debaters to showcase what they can do. We hope to see you and your girls – in school uniform please – on the evening so you can join in to celebrate all that is Cumnor Girls.

“Celebrating your achievements and applauding your triumphs is a sure way to

refuel your enthusiasm and keep yourself motivated for your future endeavours.”
