Cumnor House Nursery comprises two fantastic settings where parents can choose 51-week or term time provision and benefit from being part of the Cumnor House School family.

Welcome to our Nursery School

Welcome to our Nursery

I am Mrs Upfold and I lead the Early Years here at Cumnor. This means I take care of the little people from the moment they join us at two years old until they join Year One.

Nursery is the beginning of children’s journey at Cumnor and the majority of our children continue onto the Boys and Girls school. As the Head of Early Years, part of the enjoyment of my role is seeing young children flourish and go on to their chosen schools or gaining scholarships. It is well researched that an excellent start in Early Years will set children up with the skills they need to succeed, and something that makes me really proud to be part of.

At Cumnor Nursery we believe that play is essential in young children’s learning or research as we like to describe it.

“Play is the highest form of research” Albert Einstein

It is our belief that providing a rich curriculum, giving children opportunities to challenge themselves, think independently in a caring and welcoming environment lays solid foundations to ensure accelerated progress.

We understand the importance for the youngest members of our community by creating a home from home environment. We follow a key group approach where we encourage children to form bonds with all the adults in the classroom. The classrooms are led by our Nursery managers and Deputy managers, who plan fantastic topics around the children’s interests and create the family feeling in every class. The managers ensure birthdays, achievements and milestones are celebrated as they would with a family members.

At both our Nursery schools we welcome boys and girls from the age of two. We have one 51 week nursery located on Pampisford Road on our outstanding playing fields. Our Second Nursery is located on the tree lined, gated community of the Webb Estate in Purley, this site is shared with the Reception children.

Both Nursery schools have access to their own dedicated outdoor play areas, specific eating areas and nature gardens. The children have access to a reading area, tablets, games and resources which aid mathematical, thinking and reasoning skills and a wide variety of creative resources. As part of the curriculum Nursery children enjoy weekly Music, PE, and Foreign Language sessions with specialist subject teachers. The curriculum is also enhanced with cooking, welly walks and yoga sessions when appropriate to the topic.

We look forward to welcoming you!
