U9A Hawthorns Festival

U9A Hawthorns Festival

The Hawthorns Football Festival brought the first set of fixtures for the U9’s this season. After only 1 Games session is was difficult to find time to work on any team shape or tactics, therefore ensuring improvements were made throughout the day was the main focus.

After a slow start, getting used to new players and formations, we began to improve. We passed the ball with more quality, but importantly, we started to do things quickly. Our opponents found this difficult to deal with, meaning that we would go on and top our 6-team group – on goal difference. Alfred was excellent in goal all day and the defence improved their shape and understanding of not diving in were excellent in defence, Keyaan, Myles and Jathushan were a constant threat up front, scoring some superb team goals.

We ended up losing the final by the way of Golden Goal in extra time, seconds after missing a great chance ourselves. However, the boys took the defeat like honourable young men, and more importantly did improve as the day went on, which bodes well for the season.
