Marking and Pupil Assessment

Find out how we will mark work and assess progress whilst we are teaching online

Work that is set is expected to be submitted back to teachers,– all tasks set will have extended deadlines to take into consideration our different families and their needs. Individual teachers will make clear their expectations around submitting work when individual tasks are set and how to submit work for different age groups.

Feedback will be delivered in a variety of age-appropriate methods. This may include teachers recording audio, teachers holding small group sessions with 5-6 students, or responding to individual children via Teams. Marking will also be conducted in a variety of methods as would be the case if children were in the classroom.

Teaching staff will be keeping a close eye on academic work and will be regularly assessing and reviewing pupils’ attainment and progress. This assessment will continue in line with our usual ongoing summative frameworks, taking into account both effort and attainment. Where there are specific concerns in any areas, our usual school approach will apply; subject teachers will address individual subject concerns, whilst form teachers will manage any broader pastoral issues.

Homework

During this time we will not be setting additional ‘homework’ as some children will be completing tasks and children should not be burdened with a weight of additional tasks. The well-being of our children is vital to ensure a continued love of learning.

Reading

There is an expectation that our students continue to read daily, aside from their timetable. As a guide, we recommend the following as minimum times:
Y5 & Y6 – 50 mins daily
Y3 & Y4 – 30-40 mins daily
Y2 – 20 mins daily
Y1 – 10-15 mins daily
Reception – 10 mins daily of reading, or blending sounds together

Whatever year group, please find opportunities to read to your daughter, or for older siblings to read. A shared story is a precious thing and the discussion and comprehension of texts that can be achieved is great.

Next Step Senior Schools

Our current Year 5 parents have had individual consultations with me on future Senior schools. If you require further discussion or guidance, please do not hesitate to contact me on amanda.mcshane@cumnorhouse.com to arrange a phone call.

Maths, English and Reasoning lessons will still be gearing children up and preparing them for the 11+ examinations.

We recommend that you check with each individual Senior School website for any updated Admissions information pertaining to September 2021 entry and to ensure the meeting of any registration deadlines, particularly for the State Selective schools.

We continue to work closely with Senior schools where our current Year 6 have offers and will be attending in September 2020.
