Heads Message 7th Jan 2020

Dear Parents

I hope your break was relaxing and restful, I would like to take this opportunity to wish you all a happy and prosperous 2020 and thank all the parents and children for the lovely cards and generous gifts that my staff and I received.

It was a pleasure to welcome back our pupils this morning. The boys looked refreshed and very excited about coming back to school.

My assembly this morning discussed with the boys, the value of resolutions for the New Year. The conclusion was made that resolutions may be successful for a short period but will never be as impactful as making the right choices every day. New Year is great for a party and celebration but shouldn’t be the only time we reflect and make new positive life choices. For young children this is even more important, as every day should be considered a ‘fresh canvas’ with the opportunity to improve on the day before and like our motto now reads ‘Be your best self’.

The school calendar has been updated and is on the school website, it can be found within the parents’ drop down section in the top right corner of every web page – we encourage you to use this online calendar as a tool for future school events and planning in 2020.

The calendar will be updated regularly by the school so please do save this to your desktop or as a link on your phone/tablet. Every effort will be made to keep the calendar as accurate as possible, but significant and last-minute changes will also be sent via Parentmail.

For your ease, please click on links below to be taken to the relevant school calendar:

On the topic of communication, our new and revised ‘Communication Charter’ can be found on the website and is a very useful tool to direct you to the right member of staff if you have a query. 2020

For Cumnor House Nursery Parents I would like to highlight the Parent Handbook, which is an invaluable resource for some our more commonly asked questions.

If you haven’t seen it, please take the opportunity to check out our new school promotional video. Mrs Phillips and the marketing team have done a fantastic job at capturing the true essence of Cumnor House.

I would like to take this opportunity to welcome Mrs Jackson a qualified teacher who has taken on the role of learning support/EAL teacher and will further support for Year 1 and Year 2 Classes.

Mrs Upfold has also joined the staff team in role of EYFS leader. Mrs Upfold joins us from Banstead Prep School and will be focussed on the continued improvement and leadership of Early Years, including both Nurseries and Reception Classes. Mrs Kelly will still support the leadership for Reception Classes for the remainder of this academic year, alongside her role as Head of Pre-Prep.

Mr Laing has joined our transport team and Miss Egan will be working in job share with Mrs Chrysostomou, who has returned from maternity leave.

Spring term is one full of challenge for boys taking part in Common Entrance exams, interviews and selectivity tests. I wish all boys’ good luck and trust that they will give of their best, showing the hard work and preparation they have put in. Please remember to let form tutors know if your child is absent for a test or attending an interview.

On a final note the weather is predicted to take a turn for the worse over the next month, please ensure your children have the correct uniform and cold weather clothing including a school jacket, and school hats and gloves. Outer clothing is as much part of the Cumnor uniform as the famous Red Blazer, so please adhere to our uniform policy.

Have a great term and a great week.

Kind regards

Mr Cummings
