Headmistress’ Weekly Blog – 20.05.2019
How is it nearly half term already? We have had a busy week and were delighted to be able to enjoy the sunshine. Year 2 went to Kew Gardens and, I think, travelled by nearly every form of transport to get there – shank’s pony, bus, tram and train all while flying the flag for Cumnor with their superb manners, behaviour and learning attitude. They had a fabulous time, particularly enjoying the treetop walk.
While we are blessed with sunshine, could you please ensure that your daughter has suncream applied prior to coming to school, most formulations are designed to last the day.
Reception girls wowed us with their assembly, they stood on stage and confidently spoke about their favourite aspects of learning this year. I sat there watching and listening to these confident children and being astounded by the progress that they have all made this year and also the joy with which they spoke and sang to us. I know that they were delighted to perform to their parents and very proudly served them tea and biscuits at the end.
I was pleased to welcome Year 3 and 4 parents to a talk about future schools which I hope was found to be informative and will allay some of the anxiety and mystique that surrounds this. Please know that “we’ve got this”. We know what we are doing, we will support your daughters in every way that they need, we will support you through the process too. We all want what is best for our girls and we do that best when we work together. I am sure that I will be seeing many of you at the Future Schools event in the Sports Hall on Monday evening, where there will be a variety of schools doing their “show and tell”.
I had an interesting and productive meeting with Bev and Tim from the Woodcote Lane Residents’ Association about how we can continue to try to keep the Lane as clear as possible. There were several ideas bounced about, one of which is not parking and dropping off at the Black gate but to drive into the school, drop at Piccadilly and then continue either left or right at Woodcote Lane. I have agreed to trial this for a week after half term. I am sure that it will not be without its difficulties and limitations but, we will not know until we try. I will send out further information nearer the time.
Friday brought Mufti day and lots of bottles in readiness for the Summer Fair, which is to be held on 8th June. We are looking forward to the array of stalls and to repeat the wonderful atmosphere and community feel that there was last year. We hope that you will be able to support the school by coming to this event and helping to man a stall. Please contact the PTA if you would like to help, I am sure they would be very pleased to hear from you.
We have had a teacher / family appreciation week, this was celebrated by our wonderful PTA who have made all the staff at school feel valued and appreciated by way of kit kats, flowers, coffee, throws and cushions to name but a few things. This culminated in them coming into assembly to talk to the girls about all the adults in school who help them to grow. I really do have a team of dedicated and hard-working staff in every aspect of school, from the grounds, to the kitchen, office, playground and classroom. We have many members of our community all working hard to give our girls the best opportunities. Thank you to Charlene for leading the PTA, and to your team for your endless enthusiasm and commitment. We thank all members of our Cumnor community for your continued support.
“What sunshine is to flowers, smiles are to humanity. These are but trifles, to be sure; but scattered along life’s pathway, the good they do is inconceivable.”
