Headmistress Message – 1st April 2019
Nearly at the end of another term and we are busy right to the end. Year 5 engaged and entertained us with their musical retelling of the story of the Wooden Horse of Troy on Thursday evening. They learned a great many words and every one of them was audible and intelligible and the girls sang the story with great energy. Every member of the audience was spellbound and we didn’t want it to end. Thank you, girls, for a wonderful evening.
The girls who attend QUEST have been busy preparing a ‘Battle of the Brains’ Quiz session for the whole school on Monday. They put together age appropriate questions and delivered them to all classes, they thought creatively to find the best way to challenge each year group . The girls planned everything, researched questions, designed power points and made posters, they were all very excited!
This week brings us the first ever Cumnor House Girls’ Celebration Evening on Tuesday. A drop-in event from 6.00pm until 8.00pm. We will have demonstrations of hockey skills, gymnastics, choir, orchestra amongst other things, all of the classrooms are decorated with displays of the girls’ work and each room will have an activity taking place for the girls to do, the egg projects will also be displayed. It is not a time to sit and look at your daughter’s books, that will take place at our next set of ‘Look at Learning’ events, our Celebration Evening is an opportunity for us to showcase and celebrate what takes place in our lovely school – things that parents do not always get the opportunity to see.
Wednesday sees our inter-house Performing Arts competition, this has historically been just a music competition but we have added breadth and we look forward to a more varied programme this year with Dance and even a comedy sketch. On Friday we will be having the inter- house gymnastics competition and I look forward to seeing the routines and further talents of our girls. We do have such varied opportunities for our pupils and many occasions where they can shine should they choose.
Thursday is the day for the great Easter Egg Hunt, organised by our wonderful PTA. Many of the eggs are currently “hidden” behind my sofa ………. If you wish for your daughter to participate please contact the PTA so that we can ensure that we have sufficient eggs.
So this was another term where learning was outstanding, girls’ effort and achievements were truly commendable. I continue to be proud of our lovely school and wish to take this opportunity to thank the staff who work tirelessly to support your daughters in so many ways; to thank your daughters for bringing energy and enthusiasm to their learning and activities and to thank parents for the support and encouragement that you give to our girls and to the school. I wish you all a restful break and look forward to seeing you next term.
“A simple celebration, a gathering of friends; here is wishing you great happiness, a joy that never ends.”
