We continue to feel the impact of Coronavirus this week and I would like to reaffirm my commitment to following the advice presented to the school from the Cognita Exec team, WHO, PHE and the government. The picture is changing daily and I ask that you have patience if events are rearranged or cancelled at short notice. In the meantime, please encourage children to wash their hands and continue the elbow nudging instead of handshaking… Maybe even a little more softly as I find myself with a bruised elbow at the end of this week.
As with the rest of England, life continues at Cumnor at its normal exciting pace. World Book Day events throughout the week and the visiting ISI inspection team have made this week, a week to remember. Unfortunately, I am not able to report on our Regulatory Compliance Inspection until it is published officially. I can share with you that our feedback was positive and I look forward to sharing the report in about 6 weeks.
Monday sees the start of National Science week and Mrs Marange has many inspiring and exciting activities planned. I was very pleased to hear of the recent success of our National Quiz team, who have qualified for the National finals for the first time. As part of Science Week we will be supporting the ‘SolarBuddy’ initiative. SolarBuddy is an Australian charity uniting Global Partners including Cognita, to gift six million solar lights to children living in energy poverty by 2030, to help them to study after dusk and improve their education outcomes. You can learn more about this excellent cause through this link: https://solarbuddy.org/
You may have noted our Spring Celebration Open Morning invite that was shared this week. From feedback presented in the Parent Survey’s, we shall be inviting all parents from Year 1 – Year 8 to visit the school with their children, view class work and to be toured by their own children. My hope is that this new informal event for Cumnor will provide a showcase for children to show you what they are most proud of. As well as providing a clear and transparent opportunity to discover the learning journey partaken by our boys. Parents of Reception and Nursery children are also welcome to join us and we shall ensure you too have the opportunity of touring with older boys or possibly alumni. I look forward to seeing many of you on Saturday 14th March between 9.30am and 11.30am. (Last entrance 11am.)
Tonight is the annual PTA Boys’ School Quiz Night event and I look forward to negotiating at least one correct answer from my SLT team. I am sure I will see many of you there.
Have a great weekend and thank you all for your continued support.
Mr Daniel Cummings
