Cumnor House Swim Squad Ranked 2nd in the Country
19 May 2012Cumnor House School Swim to Victory at the IAPS Finals.
Cumnor House swim team won the Independent Association of Prep Schools’ 11 and Under National Title at the weekend. The event was held at the K2 Sports Centre, Crawley. The swimmers:- Stanley Jones, Robbie Chan, Sean Gray and Jonathan Lewis won both the Freestyle and Medley Relays against strong opposition from schools around the country.
The medley relay led from start to finish whilst the freestyle relay team swam a close race to claim victory by a second from Downsend School, the second placed team. In the individual events Sean Gray won the silver medal in the 25m Butterfly, Stanley Jones came 4th in the 50m Backstroke, Robbie Chan 5th in the 50m Breaststroke and Jonathan Lewis 8th in the 50m Freestyle. In the 10 and Under age group Kobe Ndebele won the bronze medal in the 25m Butterfly event which is no mean feat as Kobe is young enough to compete in the same age group next year. The 12 and Under age group saw William Bowler swim a strong race to finish 6th in the 50m Breaststoke. William was joined by Zak Parish, Connor McGrath and Ashwin Gobiraj to take 8th place in their heat in the medley relay.
The Cumnor House team were the second placed school in the overall team title but there will be no let up in the strict training schedule as the boys have qualified for the All English Schools’ Finals in June, at Pond’s Forge, Sheffield. Well done to all the boys.
