Reception Reading Success
14 March 2012
We have been working extremely hard in Reception with our reading. In September the boys joined us with some or little knowledge of sounds and letters. We worked through all three sets of sounds from the Read, Write Inc. scheme and we are amazed at their progress. The boys are able to read words such as, ‘bright’, ‘inspire’ and ‘weather’ using their phonic ability. Our new scheme has helped the boys progress at a very fast rate with their reading but most importantly they are showing an excellent understanding of the stories they read. They can discuss how the characters feel, what they say, what they think and what may happen. During the lessons new vocabulary is introduced and we have observed the boys using these new words in every day work and play at school:-
Jack ‘I was furious.’
Jevan ‘he must be horrified.’
Krish ‘I am astonished.’
This language is being transferred into their writing and they are producing amazing sentences and stories such as:-
‘I will crunch that mouth watering bug.’
The Reception staff are seeing such pleasing results that we would like to celebrate the boys’ achievements by sharing this with you. Well done, Reception!
