Life's Brighter Side
We regard music as an essential part of every girl's education, and pride ourselves on outstanding facilities, a huge range of activities and a long and distinguished history of musical achievement. By performing and listening to music including Holst, Prokofiev's Peter and the Wolf and Handel amongst others, your daughter's horizons and musical appreciation will be broadened in many ways.
The department is led by the Head of Music who is supported by eight peripatetic staff. The Music Department facilities consist of a classroom and practice room. All girls from Reception to Year 6 have at least one music lesson per week as part of the curriculum.
The Main Orchestra enables girls to learn ensemble skills at varying levels. We also have a Junior and Senior Orchestra.
Every year the school holds both formal and informal concerts, performances at the Fairfield Halls Arthur Davison Concerts, annual school musicals, Associated Board exams and a variety of music trips.
Girls have the opportunity to participate in one of three school choirs (Junior, School and Chamber), an orchestra, string group, flute group and individual lessons. In Year 3 girls are offered a taster during the course of the year in four instruments (cello, violin, flute or clarinet). They are offered free tuition.
