Lower School

The Lower School introduces your son to a wider programme of learning and provides him with opportunities to discover where his own natural talents and abilities lie.

Boys enter the Lower School (Years 3 - 5) aged seven, either from Pre-Prep or from their Junior School.

There are three classes, each with a Form Teacher who teaches at least one subject to his own class. In Year 3 the boys have their Form Teacher up to 60% of the academic time. In Years 4 and 5, we introduce an increasing number of subject specialists. The Head of Lower School will also teach every boy.

All three years provide a broad and balanced curriculum of Maths, English, Science, History, Geography, RE, ICT, Music, Art and Design, PE, Swimming and Games. We introduce Latin in Year 5.

Through our Year 3 Music Scheme we encourage boys to take up an instrument and sing in a choir. We also view sport as integral to a good education, and teams of all ages and many levels take part in inter-school fixtures in soccer, rugby, cricket, swimming and athletics.

Parents can meet their son's teachers and discuss any issues at Year Group Evenings in September and at parents' evenings. In addition, teachers are always available for formal or informal meetings to discuss their son's progress.
