CHS U11 6 A-SIDE TOURNAMENT

The CHS U11 A team retained the Cumnor House School 6's shield for the second year running after winning all five matches on Friday 17 May. There was an excellent display by all with the ball which set us up well in chasing meagre totals. We were pushed to the final over in the semi-final against Elmhurst but Edric Pepra's calming touch saw us over the line. Chasing CLFS's 45 to win in the final made for an exciting finish. Openers Jay Farquharson and Adam Mahmood got us off to the best possible start before Massimo Costa came in to free up his arms. With four balls remaining we secured the victory in what was an enthralling final.

IAPS NATIONAL CHAMPIONS AND RECORD BREAKERS!

Seven Cumnor boys swam in the IAPS National Swimming finals on Saturday 11 May at K2 Leisure Centre in Crawley. The main highlight of the morning was the boys 4 x 25m freestyle relay team (Jack Sharpe, Kobby Akuoko, Ciaran Gray and Cameron Leishman). Two heats of six swam for the right to become national champions. Queen Elizabeth Grammar School (QEGS) won the first heat in a formidable time of 1.03.63. We swam in the second heat knowing we had to beat that time to become champions. The boys swam the race of their lives and won the second heat in 1.03.00 to win the event and also break the previous record of 1.03.48 which has stood since 1998!
The afternoon session (individuals events) brought further success. Cameron Leishman, Max Yip, Sean Gray and William Bowler swam in individual heats. Cameron Leishman (25m Breastroke), Sean Gray (25m Butterfly) and William Bowler (25m Butterfly) all qualified for finals with Cameron Leishman coming 8th swimming up a year group. Sean Gray narrowly missed out on a medal in 4th position and William Bowler swam a solid race touching in 7th position.
WELL DONE, BOYS!

HAZELWOOD U13 6 A-SIDE CRICKET TOURNAMENT

Six boys from the 1st XI cricket team went away on Friday 3 May to Hazelwood School for a 6-a-side cricket tournament. It was an excellent afternoon of cricket, whereby the boys all had a chance to show off their skills with bat and ball. In the group stages we beat Aberdour and Hazelwood to progress to the semi-finals.
The boys then had their most impressive victory over Sevenoaks Prep in the semi-finals, winning by six wickets in only three overs. However, unfortunately the team looked a little tired in the final and we were narrowly lost by two runs to Hazelwood School, whom we had previously beat in the group stages. Special mention should go to Fred Figueira who took a hat-trick against Aberdour and was also the leading tournament batsman with 75 runs throughout the day without losing his wicket once.
1st VI: Harry Gibson, Connor McGrath, William Hurst, Alex Ross (wk), Fred Figueira (c) & William Bowler
