Looking At Life
Whatever his abilities, we see your son's engagement with art at Cumnor House as a wonderful means of encouraging his artistic skills, creativity and self-expression. Those with outstanding ability have the opportunity to go on to scholarships at their senior schools.
From earliest arrival in Pre-Prep, boys explore the world of art not just by studying the work of famous artists, but also by practical participation and by looking at and talking about their own and each other's work.
From the Lower School the curriculum includes a dedicated art lesson with opportunities to work with an even wider range of materials and equipment. As they progress, the boys learn to increase their powers of observation, working in two and three dimensions, experimenting with materials and techniques, and becoming imaginative and expressive in their ideas.
Some students, particularly those in Years 7 and 8, join the after-school art club where they can pursue their own personal work.
