Additional Learning
Following the assessment, an Individual Educational Plan (IEP) may be drawn up which highlights the pupil's strengths and learning difficulties, and suggests strategies which subject teachers may use to assist them in their teaching. It also lists approximately three targets which the pupil will be focussing on in the subsequent months. Individual Education Plans are reviewed twice a year with the parents.
Gifted and Talented pupils at Cumnor House are identified through a range of evidence, such as the results of standardised tests and end of term exams, the standard of class work and teacher recommendation. Gifted pupils are those who excel in academic areas of the curriculum and talented pupils are those who are outstanding in Sport, Art, Music and / or Drama. These pupils will be provided with extension work within lessons. Those who are particularly talented in English and / or Mathematics receive weekly withdrawal sessions where work of an even more challenging nature is provided.

Cumnor House is committed to providing the necessary support to ensure that all our pupils are able to access the curriculum and work at the top of their ability level. Additional support with learning is provided throughout the Pre-Prep and Prep school and is based on each individual pupil's learning needs.
Pupils who are experiencing difficulties with their learning receive additional support which includes the provision of differentiated material and tasks within the classroom, and withdrawal from class for one-to-one or small group sessions where appropriate. Pupils who receive such support include those who have a specific learning difficulty such as dyslexia / dyspraxia, those who have language processing difficulties and those who have mild general learning difficulties.
Some pupils with learning difficulties may be referred by their class or subject teacher for an assessment which is carried out by the Head of Learning Support. If significant learning difficulties are discovered, the pupil's parents will be contacted and a recommendation is made that the parents pursue a more in-depth assessment from an Educational Psychologist.
